Ted is a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist,  formerly with the Chicago Tribune, author of four books and editor of another. As a general assignment reporter at the Tribune, he contributed more than 2,000 articles on a wide array of topics, including social justice, human interest, the environment, politics, education, health, science, the legal system and many others. In 2008, Ted won the Pulitzer Prize for Investigative Reporting as part of a team of six journalists who worked on the series “Hidden Hazards,” which uncovered dangers in children’s products. He also contributed to a Tribune Pulitzer in 2001. Throughout his career, Ted made versatility his specialty and developed a reputation for writing emotionally engaging stories that often “went viral.” His knack for creating front-page articles from obscure and idiosyncratic cultural touchstones around Illinois inspired his fourth book, “Mary Jane’s Ghost.” After taking a voluntary buyout from the Tribune in December of 2018, Ted was honored by having his byline permanently placed on the wall of the iconic Billy Goat Tavern.
